“I’m here, as a democrat, because this is a non-partisan race and the issues that Honolulu faces are not partisan, and so we come to support the best man for the job. In my view, and in the view of Ben Cayetano, another solid democrat, Charles Djou is the best man for the job. ” – Judge Walter Heen
We are excited to have Retired Judge Walter Heen, a former chairman of the Hawaii Democratic Party, serve as the chair of the Djou for Mayor campaign. Judge Heen has a long history of service in our community. Judge Heen has served as a Democrat in the Hawaii State Legislature, the Honolulu City Council and as a trustee on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. He was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to be the U.S. Attorney for the District of Hawaii, and later went on to be named as a Federal District Court Judge. Under Governor John Waihee, Judge Heen served on the Hawaii State Intermediate Court of Appeals. As a long time leader in the Native Hawaiian community, in 1998 Judge Heen was one of the five authors of the “Broken Trust” commentary that lead to major reforms at Bishop Estate/Kamehameha Schools.
Judge Heen is fighting with us because he wants to fix the mess the City has made over the rail system. He understands that this election is our last chance to save Honolulu from financial disaster.
Because of his long legacy of putting our community’s interests first, Charles Djou’s campaign for mayor is honored to have Judge Heen serve as its chair. If a man as trusted as Walter Heen supports Charles Djou, will you? Please vote for Charles Djou for mayor on August 13th and be a part of restoring trust to Honolulu Hale.
